DÉRIVE

/DEH-reev/

(feminine noun) a drift; an unplanned journey.

While situationism was a reaction to capitalism and the endless ways we are marketed to and coerced to conform by the dominant culture, natural wine also functions as a counter response to the conventional farming and winemaking that is designed to homogenize taste and is contributing to the slow death of our planet. Natural wine aims to reverse these currents through thoughtful, organic farming and low intervention winemaking, employing no additives besides minimal preventive sulfite addition and nothing taken away, ie no fining or filtration. These wines can be challenging, thought-provoking, “alive” seeming, and downright delicious. We have found that natural wine connects people like no other beverage. It is no wonder that Guy Debord, the founder of Situationist International, and Marcel Lapierre, the great pioneering natural vigneron in Beaujolais, were friends and colleagues. With all that high-minded stuff being said, we invite you to join our Dérive.
